You're right we probably do multi task because we think we are accomplishing a lot. The obvious results are over stimulated and tired nervous system. Partially also a reason for our burnouts. If only we could practise with simple steps how to be present where we are, we would be a lot more consistent and fulfilled.

I friggin' hate multitasking. Period.
In the past twenty years, the number of distractions has increased markedly. And it is not doing us any favors.
