I used to work for Lush in the UK, and we would have been sacked for that behaviour! Our hourly rate also went up by £1/h for hitting a series of targets each day, from greetings, demos, and converting footfall to sales, so I could effectively double my pay if I did the job as they wanted it done. Your Korea experience is on-brand, but sounds like HCMC might not be using the same incentives?

It doesn't surprise me that there are significant financial incentives for Lush store employees—that's what I suspected after my Korea experience. And it's difficult to imagine how such incentives—if they are indeed implemented globally—could result in such a disappointing experience in HCMC. Might be the pay is so low that doubling it doesn't make much of a difference? I'm blindly guessing here though. Thanks Kate for reading and sharing your experience!

Thank you for the writing! ❤️ I'm going to have to find the HCMC Lush next time I come to Việt Nam, you've got me very curious.

I wonder sometimes whether people being hired for shop/sales positions actually enjoy interacting with people. It is really a fundamental requirement for enjoying the job.

It really is! Though I guess many, many people are not in the financial position to choose jobs that suit their proclivities. Something I should remind myself of more often...
