I would suggest it is not pride that keeps you going, it is will & inner strength. Pride is an impediment, it's one of the 7 deadlies for a reason. There is a link below to a column i wrote a while back on the dangers of Pride, check it out if you get a chance. Glad you are getting to see the results you want. You put in the work, you deserve it. Kudos.
Hiya, thanks for the encouragement and thanks for sharing. I guess it depends on how we define "pride." I think the way I'm defining it is probably very different from your definition. I'm not a big fan of will and inner strength myself. I find that it doesn't work for me.
I have read this book and enjoyed it, I’m signed up to James’s weekly emails which I find inspiring and encouraging to keep going.
It’s a great question with numerous answers. I think I keep going with something for my own sake and sanity. Reading, writing and studying because I enjoy it and to show a good example towards my teenage son. I no longer drink alcohol, a year and 9 months without it, that was a tough habit to break!
I like to exercise by dancing, Pilates or yoga as I enjoy the process and also how I feel afterwards. Whereas my friend kept trying to get me to go to spin fit classes but I know I hate it. I tried it a couple of times years ago and it’s not for me. I’ve certainly learned later in life that I have to do things that I enjoy and not to please others.☺️
Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your thoughts! That's actually a very good motivator: enjoyment. It does motivate me as well for many things I do, but completely slipped my mind when I was planning and writing this newsletter. Thanks for reminding me of it. And congrats on quitting alcohol! It's an idea I've been toying with for a while as everyone I know who quit alcohol reports having a better life and body for it!
Lovely post. There's a great podcast with the author of this book on Peter Attia's podcast. Check it out if you'd like! :)
Thanks for the recommendation! Peter Attia's podcast has also been recommended to me several times, about time I check it out. :)
